Grandma enthusiastically made us breakfast, lunch and dinner just about every day -- as she noted, "I didn't come here to twiddle my thumbs" -- but her greatest contribution came as caretaker for us and the new love of her life, grandson Austin.
Grandma and Austin enjoyed special bonding time every morning, as she held him in her arms while walking to the little park behind our unit or relaxing on the couch with a good book. She also patiently helped him learn how to find his own thumb. (He hasn't quite gotten it down yet, but he's getting there.) Sarah and I were even able to sneak away for a couple of exciting "dates" -- to Costco and Target.
Needless to say, we're all looking forward to our next reunion -- which, based on Grandma's devotion to her new grandson, will be sooner than later. -ml
