Austin's first month

Visiting with the grandparents and Aunt Alison. Going to the beach. Watching basketball with daddy. Rolling over. Exploding poop across the room.

Those are some of the things that Austin did during his first month, which he completed on Monday. Here's a picture of him on his first-month birthday in his tie-dye onesie from my colleague, Adam. As you can see, he's already getting big. We think he's going to outgrow his bassinet soon.

Monday also marked Michael's return to work after a four-week break. We were lucky that he was able to take off some paternity leave to spend time with the baby and visiting family members. Michael is a champ as a dad - bathing the baby without hesitation, making meals for mommy and bouncing endlessly with the baby over his shoulder.

Austin is changing by the day. On Monday, it seemed like he really learned to smile - big wide grins with gurgles and coos. He smiles and responds more often now to sights and sounds. Yesterday, he even lit up when Michael made raspberry sounds at him.

He also has great head/neck control for a newborn. He has rolled over repeatedly during tummy-time. One of these days, we'll get it on video. For now, take a look at this picture of him hanging over the couch arm with daddy.
