We spent one of our afternoons in Chicago hanging out in Evanston with Sarah's friend Charis and her two kids, Eric, below middle, and Ryan, below right.
Charis and her family own a chic baby store in Evanston called
Tink-Tinks. They expanded the store since we last visited, creating plenty of room for us -- including Austin's Daddy -- to run around.
Austin clearly enjoys sitting on chairs; it's about time we got him his own table (IKEA 99-cent breakfast here we come!). Eric clearly enjoys having his picture taken.
Eric and Austin played together a bit, but mostly Eric played with me, including an extensive game of hide-and-seek. When we left, Eric said he'd miss me. Awwww.
Austin and I had on our matching Cubs paraphernalia. Aunt Alison bought that outfit for Austin last year. Since then, she has turned against the Cubs and become a full-time White Sox fan. Whatever works.
Another afternoon was spent having lunch with the Boyds (Joel, Jenn, Emily and Matthew) and three-fourths of the Agrests (Jeff, Josh and Ryan). Below, Sarah happened to randomly catch Emily, in orange, while taking a picture of me helping Austin navigate "The Dragon" at Old Orchard. I was amazed at how muscular I look in that T-shirt. Bless you, Banana Republic, bless you.
Austin had a swell time running around after lunch. We ate at The Bagel, my favorite Jewish-style deli in the Chicago area. Hard to believe that somehow I hadn't taken Sarah there before this trip.
Emily's been a little slow to warm up to her new baby brother, according to reports, but we coaxed her into posing with her pal Austin.
Finally, we visited the Fiutaks (Pete, Allison, Samantha and Ava) at their lovely Highland Park home. They have a huge finished basement that makes for an awesome play area. You can tell Austin was enjoying himself while Sarah and Allison chatted and watched.
See what I was saying about chairs? Austin couldn't resist sitting in the Fiutaks' little loveseat. Not sure why he looks so pensive. We have recently purchased a bean-bag chair for him, and that's where he sits while watching his favorite (and only) TV show, "Sesame Street."
Samantha had a great time showing off for Austin, and Austin giggled at just about everything she did.
